    Green Holiday tips

Want to "go green" this holiday season, but don't know how? Check out these simple ideas to make the season a little more environmentally friendly.

    Christmas Tree Recycling
Boise residents can easily dispose of their cut Christmas trees by putting them out on their normal trash and recycling collection days. Trees will be collected curbside between December 29, 2008 - January 9, 2009.

Instructions for curbside tree collection are simple:
Trees must be 100% free of all decorations (including tinsel and any spray-on materials).
    No tree stands are allowed.
Trees must be cut into four-foot lengths.
Set trees a few feet away from regular trash cans since they are picked up by a separate truck.

Residents who miss the tree pick-up, or those who want to dispose of their trees before their regularly scheduled trash day, may take their Christmas tree to one of the following locations:
-Ada County Hidden Hollow Landfill (map)- Trees will be accepted at the landfill free of charge between December 29, 2008 and January 24, 2009. Trees must also be 100% decoration-free but they do not have to be cut into four-foot sections. The landfill is open from 7:00am – 7:00pm Monday through Friday and 8:00am – 6:00pm on Saturday. Call 577-4725 for more information. Note: The landfill will be closed on Christmas and New Year's Day.
-Allied Waste Transfer Station (map) - The transfer station will accept trees free of charge from December 22, 2008 to January 16, 2009 . The transfer station is open between 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday through Saturday. Call 362-7564 for more information. Note: The transfer station will be closed on Christmas and New Year's Day.

Detox partners announce signing of joint powers agreement, January 2010 opening

Partners in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Crisis Center today announced the signing of a joint powers agreement to create, fund and provide for the operation of the facility to be located at North Allumbaugh Street in Boise.

Agencies participating in the agreement are the cities of Boise, Eagle and Meridian; Ada County; and the State of Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. A joint powers agreement is required to establish the legal authority for the involved governmental agencies to partner on the project.

At a press conference in the Boise City Council Chambers, Boise Mayor David Bieter also announced the scheduled opening for the center, in January 2010, with groundbreaking to occur April 2009.
